Photographer's Statement

We live in a world of non-stop stimuli that bombards us on our screens and devices throughout the day.

And so, when I’m offline, I find myself drawn to the scenes that don’t insist upon and demand my attention — the play of light on the hull of a boat, the iridescent colors of a rain-soaked tree, the rugged beauty of ferry pylons, the stillness of the sea. When I photograph, I like to get close enough to an object or landscape to discover its essence while simultaneously blurring the lines between perception and reality.  The specific becomes universal and the literal abstract.

What follows is a reminder — to myself and to others — to step away from the noise when possible, and to marvel at what makes one’s soul soar.
